Aaron Gabriel (they/them) is a queer-forward musical theater composer known for their subversive lyrics, fluidity with styles, and progressive engagement with various genres. They have written music and lyrics for more than 50 original productions locally, nationally and internationally that focus on sharing stories from the LGBTQIA2+ and diversely-abled communities. Aaron is also a passionate arts advocate and non-profit arts consultant and grants manager who works in New York, Minnesota and Louisiana. Their work has been featured nationally and internationally in New York, New Orleans, Algeria, Congo, India, Thailand, England & France at theaters including the Guthrie Theater, Ordway Center, Children’s Theater Company, Minnesota Opera and Center for Performance Research. They have been awarded grants from the Jerome Foundation, Theater Communications Group, McKnight Foundation & MN State Arts Board and received an Ivey Award for Madame Majesta’s Medicine Show (2013) & Best New Musical Lyrics and Score from Lavender Magazine for Hot Funky Butt Jazz (2018).
